Analysis of the opening to The Matrix

Camera
·Extreme Close-Up of policeman’s face, with his gun up at his head. Point Of View shot of the door being kicked down, shows the police’s power at that point. The camera then tilts up to show Trinity’s face, showing calmness, telling the viewer that this person is in complete control of the situation. Through Trinity’s arm, you see the policeman coming towards her, and she is very large in the frame, and he’s tiny, which suggests that even though she looks defensive, she really has the upper hand. Bird’s eye view of Trinity after she has just beaten up all the policemen shows her control and the damage that she can cause, this short sequences shows to the audience what she is capable of.

Editing
·Shows “Matrix Code” with the title coming into it, shows the high tech nature of the film, these effects, we would like to use effects such as these in our thriller video, however we do not have the equipment needed to do a good enough job. Fast straight cuts to create a quickened pace, we will use this as well as music to build suspense throughout our opening.

Sound
·Action type music, builds pace and suspense to make tension as high as it can be, this shows that this film is going to be very action based.

Mise-en-scene
·Street filled with police cars, shows chaos and lack of conrol in this situation. When Agents step out.
